The Chief Business Officer of Condé Nast Britain and Vogue European Business Advisor, Vanessa Kingori, who was born in Kenya and based in the UK, has been named by the Powerlist as the 9th powerful black person in the UK.
The Powerlist 2024, released on Thursday, aims to celebrate people of African, African Caribbean and African American heritage.
Now in its 18th year, it highlights black role models to young people.
Kingori began her career at the Evening Standard before moving to Esquire and later on at Conde Nast where she has been her most successful.
In September 2017, she was appointed publishing director of all British Vogue platforms – the first female publishing director in its over 100-year history. She is the first person of colour in the role and Condé Nast UK’s youngest serving Publishing Director.
In September 2021, Kingori was promoted to chief business officer across the entire British company, covering all Conde Nast Britain brands – Vogue, GQ, GQ Style, Wired, Vanity Fair, Glamour, Tatler, Johansen’s, Conde Nast Traveler, House & Garden and The World of Interiors.
This is in addition to continuing her existing responsibilities directly leading British Vogue. She was also appointed as Vogue European Business Advisor.
Also from Conde Nast publishing, The editor-in-chief of British Vogue, Edward Enninful OBE, has been named the UK’s most influential black person.
Enninful is the first black man to hold the top job at the British fashion magazine but earlier this year he announced he would be stepping down to help grow the brand globally and focus on other projects.
He is also the European editorial director of Condé Nast.
Other names to make the list for 2024 include Afua Kyei, Bank of England chief financial officer and Dragon’s Den star and podcaster Steven Bartlett.
