The controversy surrounding the Worldcoin cryptocurrency project seems to have taken a new twist after revelations emerged that some Kenyans who had their eyeballs scanned are experiencing sight challenges.
Some of the victims now claim that they were shortchanged in the deal and did not receive the Sh7,000 that had been promised to them but were instead given 2,000 shillings.
Testifying before the National Assembly’s Adhoc Committee Investigating the Worldcoin project, one of the witnesses claimed that after signing up, he developed sight challenges and had to seek medical attention.
Central Bank of Kenya governor, Kamau Thugge, who also appeared before the committee, said that while cryptocurrency has not been outlawed in Kenya due to a lack of regulatory frameworks, it remains an illegal tender in the country.
