There was drama on Friday as residents in Bondo and Msambweni marched to their respective Member of Parliament offices, demanding explanations for their representatives’ votes in favor of the controversial Finance Bill 2024 during Thursday’s parliamentary debate.
In Bondo, MP Gideon Ochanda faced intense backlash from his constituents, who expressed their anger by parading a coffin and chanting slogans such as “Ochanda must go” and “Rest in Peace Ochanda” outside his office.
The coffin, emblazoned with “#Reject Finance Bill 2024,” was placed at the office entrance as residents called for Ochanda to address them. Videos circulating on social media captured the fervent protests, with residents voicing their discontent over Ochanda’s support for the bill.
Similarly, in Msambweni, Kwale County, MP Feisal Bader encountered a group of irate youths outside his office, demanding an explanation for his ‘YES’ vote on the Finance Bill 2024. The youths questioned whom Bader claimed to represent with his decision. The protest, captured in a now-viral video, showed the youth gathered outside the heavily guarded office, where armed officers maintained a watchful presence as the protesters awaited a response from their legislator.
