Madina Giovanni Fazzini, the estranged wife of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has filed for divorce.
Fazzini, who got married to Joho in 2011 as the governor’s second wife, filed the case at the Mombasa Chief Kadhi’s Court on January 26th. The Somali-Italian national says she and Joho separated in 2013 and that their marriage is irretrievably broken and cannot be revived due to irreconcilable differences.
“I am clear and unequivocal that our marriage has broken down irretrievably with no chance of revival given we have both moved on over the years,” Fazzini says in her affidavit.
She adds that Joho moved out of their matrimonial home immediately after their separation and left their two children aged nine and eight years under her care. Fazzini and her kids continued living in the said home until September 2020 when they left.
“Since the respondent, Joho moved out of our matrimonial home in June 2013, the substance of our marriage has dissipated and has no basis to be sustained from a legal and social standpoint,” court documents read.
“There is no hope or possibility of reconciliation or compromise of whatsoever nature or kind between the petitioner and respondent.”
She wants the case to be treated with urgency and Kadhi’s court directed Joho to respond to the petition within 14 days.
Fazzini, who is born to an Italian father and Somali mother, got married to Joho in February 2011.
