The national rugby seven’s mens team Shujaa and their female counterparts, Lionesses, set to begin their challenger series against Mexico and China respectively.
The challenger series is scheduled 12-14 January in Dubai.
Shujaa will also face Uganda and Germany in group C.
Lionesses on the other hand will also play Czechia and Mexico in pool B.
A total of 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams are set to participate in the tournament in Dubai. The teams are divided into three pools of four teams each.
The top two from each pool as well as the two best third-placed finishers will qualify for the knockout stages with quarter-finals and semi-finals leading to the third place and gold medal matches.
After Dubai, Montevideo, Uruguay will subsequently host the second round in March, while the men’s Challenger Series 2024 will conclude in Germany and the women’s in Poland in May.
At the conclusion of the series the teams ranked ninth to 12th in the IRB Sevens Circuit standings will face a battle to retain their Sevens status as they compete in a separate eight-team tournament alongside the top four teams from the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series 2024.
Four men’s and four women’s teams will confirm their places in World sevens Circuit in 2025 through the tournaments, which consist of a pool stage and a round of play-off matches.
